Education Research Paper
1. Phacoemulsification Training Program
About the Program:
Phacoemulsification is the most advanced technique for cataract surgery with intraocular lens implantation. This short-term program offers ophthalmologists hands-on training under the guidance of highly experienced surgeons.
Eligibility:
DO/MS/DNB passed candidates
Prior exposure to SICS preferred
Duration:
1 month
New batch starts on the 1st of every month
Training Includes:
Hands-on surgical training
OPD and investigative lab postings
Pre-operative case selection and work-up
OT sterilization protocols
Post-operative management and patient follow-up
Active participation in case discussions, presentations, and academic activities
Video Assisted Skill Transfer (VAST) program with video reviews, self and trainer assessments
Brief exposure to other sub-specialties based on candidate’s interest
2. SICS (Small Incision Cataract Surgery) Training Program
About the Program:
SICS is an advanced, sutureless cataract surgery technique with intraocular lens implantation. This program focuses on practical skills development under senior surgeons’ supervision.
Eligibility:
DO/MS/DNB passed candidates
Duration:
1 month
New batch starts on the 1st of every month
Training Includes:
Hands-on SICS surgery training
OPD and investigative lab postings
Pre-operative case selection and work-up
OT sterilization protocols
Post-operative management and patient follow-up

About the Program:
The International Council of Ophthalmology (ICO) Fellowships help promising young ophthalmologists from low-resource countries enhance their clinical skills and broaden their knowledge. Fellows are expected to apply their experience back home to support vision preservation and blindness prevention programs.
